Alumni
We are proud to spotlight some of our past students and the success they have achieved. Our alumni will hopefully inspire our current and future students.
Class of 2002
Zid joined Picnic Point in 2001 and went into the OC class. After high school Zid went to university, he then began his career as a high school teacher in Canberra. He's conducted research all over the world and is now an academic at Harvard University leading in the area of effective teaching and education policy. Below is his journey in his own words.
Dr Zid Mancenido
I remember listening to a Presentation Day speaker sharing inspiring words from Dr Seuss's "Oh the places you'll go!" I remember feeling so eager yet apprehensive about what was to come. Back then, sitting in Year 5/6 Dromaius, I didn't know how true those words would become for me. Since then, I've been so lucky to become a high school history teacher, then to travel the world training teachers and conducting research in Singapore, the Philippines, the United States. I’m now an academic at Harvard University, teaching courses in effective teaching and education policy. I also advise international organisations and school systems on how to recruit and train excellent teachers so that all students can have them.
When I first set off from Picnic Point Public School, I didn’t know where I was going or who I would become. I still don’t know some days, and that’s what’s so exciting. What I do know, however, is that I wouldn’t be who I am today, I wouldn’t have gone to all the places I have, and I wouldn’t know how much I love teaching without first myself having had incredible and inspiring teachers like Nicky Perantuono, Michele Austin, and Pammie Chatterton. Anyway, it's your turn now, "Your mountain is waiting. So...get on your way!"
